Capital: Addis Ababa

it is the center of the country, with altitude of more than 2400 meters, the highest city in Africa. It has about 3,000,000 population and pleasant weather, a local featured city and a famous resort to escape the heat in Africa.

Physical Geography

It lays on the northeast of Africa, near to The Republic of Djibouti and Somalia in the east, Sudan in the west, Kenya in the south and Eritrea in the north. It features mostly uplands, as 2/3 area of country and altitude of 3000 meters , and mostly 2，500-3，000 meters’ Lava uplands, so called “the roof of Africa”. The yearly average temperature there is 13℃.

Climate

It is in Tropics, but with high land, almost all country has a pleasant weather and an average temperature of 10～27℃, with 16℃ of capital. Generally, March to May have the highest temperature, and November to January have the lowest temperature, October to February are dry seasons. The yearly average precipitation of uplands is from 1000 to 1500 mm, and the low lands and valleys are from 250 to 500 mm.

Brief Introduction

Ethiopia has a history and civilization of 3000. It set up Kingdom of Numidia in the 8th century BC and Axumite Kingdom in the century BC and was replaced by Zague Dynasty by the end of 10th century. New constitution was carried on in constitutional conventions on December, 1994. It held the first multi-party election on May, 1995, and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia was set up on August, 22.

Administrative Divisions

Excluding the capital Addis Ababa, the all country is divided into 9 states according to nationality.

Economy

It relies mainly on farming and animal husbandry, and it is the country with most types of crops in Africa. It is the original place of coffee in the world, with the second place of Africa. And it is a large animal husbandry country with more than half meadow; mainly on family grazing, the output value is about 20% of GDP and occupy 30% agricultural people. The number of livestock shed is always the number one of Africa.

Tourism

It has abundant tourism interests, including history, culture, Archaeology, Anthropology and wild animal sources. The people for natural beauty and adventure feel greatly good by many kinds of  animals and plants, and their warm hospitality and rich culture cast a glamour over tourism.

Axumite obelisk
It keeps the old history of Axumite king and business relation with far India and China. There the tourists can see the whole obelisk and more landscape about history, especially legendary bathroom of the Queen sheba and archaeological finds for life of Axumite king.

Lalibela church
UNESCO appoints Lalibela church as the 8th largest wonder in the world. It is made of many grate stones, with amazing appearance and unique inner decoration. There is a historical legend saying that Lalibela king build this church by himself with the help of angel, and he is called the man of   god by Ethiopians after his death.

Gondal castle
It is built in the middle of 17th century, around with churches of hundreds of histories, showing a great construction wonder. The old castle is in the Gondal city, which later becomes another political center following Aksum and Lalibela.

the Blue Nile Falls
it is called “Tississat” locally, meaning “smoking water”, showing an amazing fall scenery with the height of 55 meters’ split and forming a beautiful rainbow. And many types of engaging wild animals and little birds are lived there.

Sema mountain
It has the highest peak “Ras Dashen” with the height of 4437 meters. Under the instruction of professional tourist guards, it becomes the idea place for the tourists to climb. And there Waria wild sheep and Baboon are found.  

Rift lake
Ethiopia is one of the countries traversed by East African Rift Valley, surrounded by many beautiful lakes where lives with many wild animals and birds. The big rift valley enjoys many famous state-owned natural parkswith exclusive characters, such as the scenes for bird-viewing, climbing and game-driving.

Sof Omar cavern
It is one of the natural places of interests, with awing and mystery atmosphere for its peaceful beauty.

Denkenesh
It is the oldest fossil, living 3500000 years ago, found near to Lower Valley of the Awash and hadar. Recently, a kind of fossil 4400000 years ago has been found, called “arthipedicus ramadus”, which supports the hypotheses that the early Homo sapiens lived in Afar and Ethiopia is the source of people. Afar is not only the source of human fossils, but also it has rich wild animals and natural sceneries.
